Chinese tech giant Xiaomi received authorisation to patent magnetic AR smart glasses featuring modular mounting parts to boost portability and customisation, Pandaily reported last week.

The development comes after the Beijing-based company created an experimental version of its smart glasses technology last autumn, which featured microLED waveguides, a 51g weight, and numerous functions for calling, viewing photos, navigating in real-time, and many others.

Epic Games and NVIDIA have begun rolling out their photogrammetry tools using their Reality Scan and NeRF real-time 3D (RT3D) platforms, XR Today reported last week.

The two technologies are set to significantly impact the global market as contenders in the race to develop RT3D assets capable of optimal realism, customisation, and streamlined workflows.

XRAI Glass, a startup allowing deaf users to convert audio to AR-backed text transcriptions, debuted its groundbreaking solution on Nreal’s world-class smart glasses.

Company Founder and Chief Executive Dan Scarfe told XR Today in an interview that his 97-year-old grandfather had inspired the solution, allowing him to communicate effectively with family and friends.

Advisors to the World Economic Forum (WEF) had issued a report on XR technologies and their role in reshaping the future of work, it was revealed last week.

The representatives explored how technologies such as cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), decentralised autonomous organisations (DAOs), and others positively affected global markets and workforces amid the rise of the Metaverse.
